What size mouthpiece are you using with the Miraphone? If you're using the proverbial "toilet bowl" that most players pair up with a large tube then that may be the reason you are having trouble with air and intonation. If you aren't already, try something a little thinner and more shallow (perhaps a Conn helleberg). A lot of players have had a lot of success with small mouthpiece/big tuba combinations.
