You haven't listened to many Los Angeles Philharmonic recordings with Roger Bobo, have you? He played a 184 most of the time he was with the LA Phil, including when the Planets recording was made.
But personally, I don't think that it's wise to make assumptions about a tuba based on what Roger Bobo did with it.
