The adoption of the F tuba in this country may have had as much to do with the evolution of the horns themself. As F tubas became more and more playable in the low register to Americans (used to playing a contrabass tuba), the horns spread in populatiry. B&S got the ball rolling, but credit the introduction of the Yamaha 621 in the 80's for finally proving to the other companies that an F tuba can play low C with relative ease.
