Arnold Jacobs mentioned a number of times that during one of his earlier years with the Chicago Symphony that then Music Director Fritz Reiner required him to play all or most of one entire season on the F tuba. It was not his favorite year with the orchestra according to both Mr. Jacobs and his wife. Brian Frederickson would know more about this.
