I would be absolutely certain of my motives before switching from F to Eb. If you are switching merely because you are having trouble with the F tuba, I doubt that playing Eb will be a very quick fix. However, if you are switching because you truly like the sound and low range of the Eb, I don't see a problem. I play Eb tuba as my small tuba of choice, but that is mainly because my first teacher plays Eb and talked my parents into buying me one (for which I am ever grateful!). There are times when I am sure that an F tuba would work better than an Eb, but I would never consider switching; I'm too comfortable with my horn.
