I play a Custom Yamaha BBb as my primary horn. I switched from a wonderful Rudy 3/4 CC because I liked the sound and response so much. Granted, my Custom and 641(yes, I have one and love it!!!!) are hand made(I know the 641 isn't, but it rocks!!!), but the 321's I have played are good, dependable instruments. Maybe someone(read "you") should take charge and make sure you and your colleages take care of what you have. As for the lemon, send it back, Yamaha would probably love to help you out and give you a good one.
