I don't think we would all agree with Jay's point of view on this one. I like an F tuba to sound like an F tuba and a CC tuba to sound like a CC tuba. If I want to sound like a CC, then I will use a CC. This is just a difference of opinion regarding sound concepts.
Range is not a matter of the instrument though. All tubas have the exact same range. This is determined by the players abilities. For me, the instruments have different colors and therefore different purposes.
