DO NOT PUT THE TUBA IN HOT WATER! this can cause the lacquerto strip off of the horn.
A better idea is to put the tuba in warm to lukewarm water. Other than that it is a good idea. While you are doing this you might want to get a tuba snake and clean the tuba on the inside as well.
