It might just be easier and cheaper to fix up the old one. Pits and nicks can be filled in by copper plating (which also makes a very good strike coat for subsequent silver plating). If carefully done and the shank isn't badly damaged, the result can be almost as good as new. Talk to a plater (like Anderson) that specializes in musical instrument plating and see what they quote you.
