I was in my local repair shop today shooting the breeze, and they were telling me about 3 St. pete tubas that that were purchased by a local school. THese are brand new horns, and the spatula assemblies were falling off. Apparently, at the factory, these horns are nickle plated BEFORE some of the parts are assembled. This means they are soldering onto nickle plating which, according to them, does not accept soldering very well when any stresses are involved. If this has already been covered, I'm sorry, but I thought the information might be useful to someone who is thinking about buying one.
