I play a Cerveny (CCB686), which has a large diameter lead pipe. I use a standard Conn Helleberg mouthpiece. It fits fine, but goes in quite a long way. I've heard about mouthpieces that have a large shank, but never run across one.
My question is, would a mouthpiece that has a large shank make any difference at all in the sound (tone quality, pitch)?
So I guess that I'm really asking "does shank size really matter"?
