That only will work if there is a piece stick out. If it's broken flush, then the easy-out is the only way. Easy outs are simply a reverse threaded and tapered screw. You first drill a pilot hole straight down into the broken stem. Then insert the easy out and out the broken piece comes. It can get a bit sticky working with machines that may have rust and corrosion on the threads, but on a musical instruments that will not be a problem. It really doesn't require an instrument repairman, just someone who has the basic tools and rudimentary knowledge of how to use them.
