That sucked! I meant to say: "whether Walter's interpretation did or did not come directly from Mahler himself, hasn't anything to do with whether I enjoyed it or not. To my (deaf) ears, it still sounds quite breathless". I think that more accurately conveys what I was trying to say. By the way, Mahler's own timing for the first movement, going by his piano roll performance, is a minute and ten second slower than Walter's.
