that there's a limited amount of time available to teach an ever-increasing amount of material. The modern high-school cirriculum has only a superficial resemblence to the one we studied when we were in school (MA, you and I are almost the same age).
What has surprised me most about modern BSEE grads is the lessened emphasis on basic theory and greater emphasis on "cookbook" methods. I wonder if that holds true for the arts also. Do modern tuba performance grads know how to sing solfeggio, for example?
