At an antique store in massachusetts I bought an old getzen contrabass bugle for 50 bucks figuring it would be a fun novelty. I got it home and tried it out and the thing barely played a note. I tried a plumbing snake to remove a possible obstruction, and the snake seemed to catch on something, but when I pulled the snake just stretched and the obstruction remained. So I took the horn apart with a torch and pounded out the obstruction: a piece of wood 6 inches long and covered with red carpet. I have no idea how it got jammed in there so far into the first flaring branch. I then soldered the horn back together and blew a few notes. Then I realized that even without an obstruction, getzen contrabass bugles SUCK!
