I have used a DEG stand and have replaced the clamp with a larger one to make the height stable. The parts came from Lowe's and with a little ingenuity with the drill, everything works ok. I have also replaced the top pad twice and haven't found anything I consider to be a good solution there.

My solution is this. Go to a sporting goods store and buy a long (black) wrist band like tennis players use. Then cut a peice of 2"x2" wood (or 2"x3") a little shorter than the wrist band. Wrap the wrist band around the wood block and place it between your legs to rest the horn on. I like the 2x3 since it accomodates differences in chairs. I am 6'2" and I play a Rudy. It works like a champ. The only time I use the DEG stand is when I am not sure what the chair will look like. This doesn't work well with many of the folding chairs.
