Thanks for this posting, this is exactly my opinion.
The tuba (also an F-Tuba)is the only instrument thatīs really MUSICALLY capable of such an extreme deep register, so why not make use of it?
Nobody is very impressed, if you can play in the treble clef range with tuba, but with a WELL PLAYED passage in this extremely deep register, you can astonish the auditorium.
And for practicing, I think the more you push your physical extremes (high, deep, loud, fast etc.) the easier you can play extreme passages MUSICALLY!
