Without reading anyone else's comments, I would say that orchestras are dying a slow death.
As a college tuba player reading these posts (not directed to Scott, but to the general "you"), how many orchestra concerts do you personally attend where:
1/ you have to purchase a full-price ticket, and with your own discretionary money?
2/ there is no tuba on the particular given concert?
After answering those two questions, you can view the answer from a different perspective. The answer is not attractive, but it is.
