If you can find one used, get a Conn 2J or 3J. The 3J has a little bigger sound, but both sound extremely good in this situation. They are relatively small, not the lightest however, but will hold up to active "gigging". The pistons on these are extremely fast if taken care of and they are very user friendly. Plus, you can usually find a good one between $1800-$2500 used. Dillon's usually has one or two around. If you do any recording, these horns seem to record as good as any tuba can record.

Good Luck,
