Depends on the player, with the right combination of mouthpiece an EEb can work as well as a CC at providing a foundation. I've heard some fine US players that sound quite bright on a BAT!!!!! I once did a db check and to my surpise the EEb was higher in the "cash register"than a PT6 CC (my personal choice is a CC or BBb but the EEb is more versatile and easier on my back!)
