of the instrument outweighs its utility as a target for doing a bit of reconstruction
to end up with an Alex Eb. It had occurred to me that by inverting the valve section,
(as Alexander does on the current 173) one could shorten the lead pipe by 15" or so and end up with an interesting Eb instrument. The other thing that makes me hesitate is that this instrument has the older style (3-piece rotor?) valves, so reworking might also mean valve replacement. Now if the price was $500 ...
