The answers to all this and more can be had from one book: The Tuba Family by Clifford Bevan. The first edition would address your needs completely, and is probably in the music library of any nearby university.
It would be easy to answer your questions straight out, but I think you should try to find this book first. Sydney is a major city and I'd bet that Bevan's book is just waiting for someone like you to find it. Go there this weekend.
Another book that is probably right next to it in the library is The Tuba Sourcebook.
