This is accurate, with one exception.

George Wall hates the Eb tuba, and is the only British player in the country that I'm aware of who doesn't own one.

George uses a Hirsbrunner HB-2P, a 6/4 Meinl Weston F, and a very small Miraphone F.
He also plays a cimbasso by Thein.

More and more players here are starting to buy CC tubas, but the Eb is still king. This is not only due to tradition, but also to the difficulty in finding and trying non-Eb tubas in Britain.

On top of that, if you thought the CC tuba was a rarity here, I could probably count the number of players with f-tubas on my fingers.

I will say that I was an Eb snob when I moved here, but some of the players here manage to get absolutely massive sounds out of them, without sacrificing clarity or quality of tone. An interesting question is what would happen if a truly great player showed up at a US audition and played everything on a large Eb. Who knows?

Jeff
