I think when you blew off the steam from the Stanley you bent over the exhaust pipe and scalded yourself so badly that it melted your brain. Coal was not used, but keresene was for the boiler fire which of course you could also use on your Tuba pistons!
Perhaps that bucket of coal was from the lumps of coal left in your stocking by Santa.
