The VMI precedor, B&S, had a very easy hand with the use of different stampings.

Any importer could have his own trade name on the bells. Which was OK.

More problematic was the practice to circumvent contracts with general agents on national levels.

If a competing dealer wanted to import, the stamping was changed.

I must admit to be the owner of such an instrument. One of my horns is clearly a "Meister Hans Hoyer", but the engraving says B&S. (Fine instrument!)

This is a report of an ancient pre-wall-fall situation. No present day equivalent could be found, of course.
