Were I in the market for a BBb BAT like this Holton, I think I'd be happy about the damaged bell. I don't think it would affect the horn so much that I would notice it, and it would run off the guys who have hacksaws at the ready and are willing to bid it up into the stratosphere. (Read: It would be good enough for me, but I can't say if it's good enough for you. Or, if you get it for the right price, you can always be ready to grab a salvageable bell should one come your way in the future.)
So, here's the answer I would give if I were bidding: If you are interested so you can do Big Cut on it, then the patch absolutely ruins the instrument. It's garbage. Stay away!
