Okay -- that's a sensible reason (ya gotta have *someplace* to live I suppose -- and "home" is a reasonable choice!).
A co-worker transferred out to Manhattan a few years back and we were all astounded to see how expensive it was! One bedroom apartment was $2000-$2500/month plus $300/mo for parking. Out here in low-cost north central Indiana I'd have a mansion for that amount!
Good luck in your new neighborhood, and good luck finding a school. It's not in NYC, but isn't Eastman a good music school (Rochester)? Maybe you'd at least get the resident fees? (You'd also get some snow from time to time!)
