Mr. Jacobs told me that when he first went the CSO, he used to play Russlan when it came up. Since he never had in earlier jobs, he assumed it was a Frederick Stock thing, when he first arrived, most of the standards were played from Stock's edited materials. Over the years that changed. By the time Reiner recorded Russlan, it was trombones only.

In 1963 or so, the Israel Philharmonic recorded Russlan under Lorin Maazel for Decca/London. It was issued as a filler for Petrouchka. Art Hicks made a very good case for it on his Holton BAT. This recording has never been issued on CD.
