Check this out at the infamous auction site. I thought that these mouthpieces were $150 new at most! The starting price on the auction is within reason but a $500 potential paperweight is a bit far fetched.
Anyhow,
This brings up the issue I have wondered about heavyweight mouthpieces. Aren't all mouthpieces machined or turned out of solid, one diameter, brass rod stock? I have been at Warburton's shop and I have seen him do this with trumpet mouthpieces doesn't it also apply to tuba mouthpieces? I thought so, maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt that. The only heavyweight mouthpiece that seems to take more intracate maching is the Marceinkewitz (sp?) "Concert-Line". Check it out....
