Lisa,
My overall impression of female tubists is quite good. The first female tubist I ever encountered was during my undergrad days, when Florence Crouch was studying at Tennessee Tech. She played tuba well enough, but was quite popular as she was also a pianist, and would accompany tubists on their recitals - what a treat, an accompanist that knew the literature, knew the instrument, was a great person and good-looking, too!
About 3 years ago at the U.S. Army Band's Tuba-Euphonium Conference at Ft. Myer, I had the pleasure of sitting next to Jan Duga of the U.S. Air Force Band. Playing her personal Mirafone 188 with great finesse, she was a true top professional and was fun to be around, too.
Although I appreciate female tubists, I have generally been attracted most to female clarinet players.
