I like your suggestion since it is the most doable with the tools and materials I have at hand. How do you machine the casing to get the right clearance all around? I have considered gluing emery paper to the rotor, followed by pumice, with an
electric drill at a slow speed with frequent removal and lots of water. I have a good
idea what the ending fit should be like, based on my Alex tuba's valves (which have only
a few thousandths clearance between rotor and casing), but my feeling is that it will
require a lot of patience and slow progress towards the result, because if you overshoot,
you have to start over.
