Identifying for gramps

I was once told about a very old tuba heavily used in Portugal with the engraving of a lions head on it. Anyone what to take a crack at identifying this horn for me, the old timers praise this horn, mostly for the way it sounds and the way the finish holds up to the salty air that comes in from the ocean. I'm sketic because I've never heard about it and you know how old timers think everything was better then, maybe it was they who were better then.
I mean no disrespect but the organization we play with is willing to pony up the cake for four new tubas and I'm pushing for the Miraphone 191. These guys, have other old guys (band directors) looking for a tuba with only the desciption I gave you to go on.
Thanks
