I've performed using bass clarinet mouthpieces, bassoon reids, even buggy horns. With a bit of electrical tape you can fit the bass clarinet reed quite nicely into a uba mouthpiece. a contrabasson reed with a bit of coaxing, should fit into your leadpipe. It's very difficult to get a non-squawky tone out of a reed, due to the fact you are not opening up tone holes. I have acheived a pitch around ten Hz which sounded much like a helicopter though, by extending the length of the horn with hoses through the valves. There's a tuba player in Europe, Pingouin Moschner (sp), who plays very similarly on a recording of his to some of the stuff I played. Lots of fun. Experiment with whatever tickles you fancy, as long as you don't damage your horn. Electronics can be a lot of fun too. I used to use a BOSS SE 70 multi-effects processor. The neighbors must have thought I had some sort of devil worship meeting going on, but I had fun.
