Hey Jonathan,

I own both the yamaha 822 and the 3/4 Rudy. I must say that if I was to have just one horn it could be either the yamaha 822 or the 3/4 Rudy! The yamaha F sounds almost as big as an average 3/4 or 4/4 CC. Use different mouthpieces to get bigger or more compact. If your teacher wants you to have a CC then go with the 3/4 Rudy. It is an awesome CC tuba! It will sit well in a chamber setting or wind ensemble. It will lack for things like Wagner and Mahler if you are playing with a big orch but, as most of us are not, it is a great all around horn. I would try both and decide which is more comfortable for you. Also, of course the Rudy is rotory and the Yamaha is piston. I used the Yamaha exclusively for over 2 years in everything I did and rarely felt like it lacked. If you have any questions about either of these horns, feel free to email me. If you are planning to keep the St. pete, I would go with the Yamaha. Then, if you need to, later you can sell the St. Pete for a CC.
