I received a call about three weeks ago, telling me that the first two Josef Lidl CC tubas had arrived in the US. I told the supplier to send me one of them. Professor Michael Moore of the Atlanta Symphony and I have been checking out this horn, and preliminary results are very good. The main differences between this instrument and the LBB-701's I've tested are 1) CC vs BBb, and 2) the CC version has solid nickel-silver inner and outer slides. It seems that they cut each section of the horn just a little, and kept the horn's balanced feeling. My first impression playing it was that it is very lively and responds quickly and easily, from a 1-2-3-4 low D to well above the staff. Mr. Moore used it for his brass quintet rehearsal, and said that the other members liked it. I've been mainly getting trombone and bass gigs lately, so I haven't played it on a gig yet, but will give a report as soon as I have done so.
