In defense of the lowly porsine tubas...for what I spent on my early 70's Piggy I couldn't have gotten more bang for the buck. Worked great for me in 3 auditions(not major symphony orchestras, the biggest shortcoming of the instrument I think) and has been a great gig horn fits in brass quintet, polka band small orchestras brass choirs and bands with ease. The build quality is admittedly inconsistent but if you find a good one you can't go wrong, I you "outgrow" it in 2 years, keep it! I love having a tuba to hop on trains, busses, stuff in and out of cars, get rained on etc, and not worry about every little ding that comes its way. It produces a wonderful tone (for cheap) and more than one coworker has told me to "Never sell that horn!"
