I need to get a more powerful horn to play in a dance music brass ensemble - 2 reeds, 2 trumpets, 2 mid-brass, and drums. I'd like to get a sousaphone and have tried both a WWII-vintage Conn 20K and a newer 26K. I like the 20K, but I have back problems and I don't think I can play it without making my back worse. The 26K (Eb) is light enough that I can probably play it without problems.
Will a sousaphone chair allow me to play the 20K? Is a fiberglass tuba - a Conn 36K - a real option?
