Aspiring to achieve an efficient buzz on the mouthpiece without resistance at the shankend is a worthy goal. It forces the lips to be as efficient and loose as possible, which, if I am not mistaken, is a primary goal of buzzing, along with ear training benefits. Playing with obstruction IS more realistic to playing in the horn, but work in the extremes always benefits performance in the norm. Keep that shank open and reap the rewards. Either that or heed the advice of Joe S. who never practices (based on his own confession of a week or two ago) and meets with relative succees in his limited market.
