Jay, great post! Interesting the way you were talking about Europeans being brought up on bass tuba. In a conversation with another pro player I heard that in Hungry the players are first taught as solo players(bass tuba mostly) explaining the ability of some of the tuba players coming out of their(Roland Szentpali). There was another guy at ITEC this month from Hungry and everyone said the guy was pretty amazing! I forgot the name.
I think as Americans for the most part after the basic fundamentals we are taught to be good ensemble players first. What is your take?
