Any teacher worth his or her salt will not be offended by HOW you are getting your results as long as the results that you are gettting are good. If your results are not as good as they can be, it is incumbent upon your teacher to help you to achieve your best product. If that means adapting a new concept, don't resist...try to do it. Your teacher only wants to help you. Regarding mechanics, we don't get points for converting you to our particular school of thought. It's music, not AMWAY.

The goal is the end result, not how we get there!
