Okay, so tell me if I messed up. My teacher played an Alexander in a symphony. Then he bought a York copy, and I commented when I first heard him playing it that the horn had a real warmth and sweetness to it.
Should I have complimented him on attaining those new qualities in the brief time (one week) since my last concert attendance?
Or, should I have complimented him on being musician enough to know that different equipment would allow him to express something previously unavailable?
