I completely agree. I just played this solo last night on an Alexander 151 tenor tuba with much success. This instrument truly is the best instrument for the job. I've heard plenty of people play it on F, and it never sounded right. The Alex keeps the tuba sound, with the brilliance and agility of an euphonium.

Besides, the solo was never meant to be played on anything but a 6-valve french C tuba, pitched a whole tone higher than a standard Bb euph (then again, the entire part was written with that in mind too).

Sure, some may be able to hit the notes, but I have yet to hear anyone play this solo on any tuba (F, BBb, etc.) with the skill and comfort level to really make music out of it.
