I would agree that at first glace the set-up may be a bit strange but there is a logical solution to the 'problem':

1. Set the first valve slide so that the F on the bottom of the staff is in tune for you - this should allow you to get every 1st valve note except for third line 'D'(which should be flat)in tune.

2. That third line 'D' should now work either 4 or 1-3 and be right on the money - the only result that I still don't care for is that I have to play the Db 2-4 If I am sustaining that pitch for any duration of time. In technical passages (Oberon Overture for example) 1-2 works fine since the pitch isn't too flat to begin with.

3. Everything else for me works great - I kick out the second vlv slide for E's and Db's below the staff and thats about it.
