Hey all! Does anybody know why the Kalison Daryl Smith tubas have a paper thin bell? The horn plays great, but I swear that the bell is paper mache'. I shared a locker with a trombonist and it made quite a few nice marks in the bell (plus a few folds as well!). Another thing about Kalisons....I've played five different Daryl Smith models, each one being totally different. Has anybody else experienced this?
I've also played four different Besson Eb (model 983). All of these played almost identically. And they played great at that! I ended up purchasing one this past April. I love it more every day. What are everyone's thoughts on that horn? I use it for solo and quintet....splendid in both venues. It can even work well in band!
I'm a sophomore studying tuba performance at Western Michigan University. I'm playing on the Besson Eb previously mentioned as well as the CC Kalison Daryl Smith (School owned).
