If colleges and universities suggest/request/ask their students to play on CC or F tubas, why is it that nearly every middle school and high school has their students playing on BBb tubas. This seems a little counter-productive to learn on a BBb and have to switch to a CC or F, or even an Eb several years later...why not start students on CC or F horns? I know that they are more expensive, but other than that? I know that it isn't impossible to switch from BBb to CC, or whatever, but why not teach what students need to know for college? Are there really any good reasons other than cost?
