Alex....did you chose your tuba from amongst several horns? Wouldn't someone buying ANY brand run the risk of your type of dis-satisfaction? Surely there's as much risk between brands as there is in one brand to wind up with a bowser....but if you weren't careful in selecting your tuba, don't blame the manufacturer...

Perantuccis are NOT that much more expensive this is true...only about 40%!!!
I'd like to see ANYone else produce a consistent 5-banger tuba like the 186 for the price.

THIS is also true: Perantucci's are stencil horns!!! They come from lowest-bid co-op factories, they are notoriously inconsistent in both workmanship and play-ability, besides...when is the last time you saw 20-year-old B&S tubas ?? Not many around, huh?Remember the B&S F was an 1100 dollar horn before the curtain fell, unless you bought it in Detroit (B&S is the perennial lowest-bidder to make the Perantucci brand)
Hell, it might be a safe bet that some factory in Brazil could be cranking them out someday!

NOW when is the last time you saw a 20-year-old Mirafone? Goodness knows you won't have ANY trouble findin an old one...there's thousands!! CERTAINLY there are far more Mirafones out there for a reason....have thousands of teachers and students ALL been duped over the years??

Think of it this way: Some people like Volvos....some people like Fiats.
When's the last time you saw a 20-year-old Fiat?
