I certainly don't shill auctions, but personally I find nothing "wrong" with shills, and here's why:

At an auction, there isn't ANY thing up for bids that any particular person must have. When any individual places a bid - FOR WHATEVER REASON - that person is saying "I am willing to pay this". That statement is unconditional. NO ONE takes that person's hand and "forces" that person to type in his bid, screen name, password, and hit the "enter" button. This fact is true whether or not any other bidder is a "shill". The wisdom - or lack thereof - lies within each bidder, regardless of motive. To complain or accuse of someone being a shill is cry-baby-ism. (ie. "Shame on so-and-so for motivating someone to pay closer to what they perfectly willing to pay.")
