The 983 is far more uncomfortable for my hands--I played and played around with the thumbring and never could find a good position--I even brazed a custom one up--the 4th valve fingerings were the most difficult for my pinky. The Willson, OTOH, is quite comfortable for me (I did install heavier springs) and the 5th valve trigger seems to be about as comfortable as any. I like the high leadpipe--it fits me perfectly.
