You're not sticking your head out when you tell the truth. I came to the same conclusion. The bell and branches are like the body of the car or truck. A big truck has more capacity (or biggness of sound). Valve section is like the engine, and leadpipe like a carb. I have experimented with a small bore valve section on a big Holton body. It still sounded big but I didn't like the way it played. Put a big bore valve section on a smaller horn and you have the equiv. of a big V-8 in a Chevette. It seems easy to play at first, but if you step on it, it'll just edge and blatt out. A well balanced horn will be perceived by a good player. Of course there are individual playing preferences from player to player. Matt
