Pops...

I was perusing the archives a while back, and I noticed a disturbing trend in the posts about pops. It is almost as if we as musicians and/or tuba players look down out collective noses at pops concert music.

I would like to point out that pops music is usually when a tuba gets to "lay it down." Also, it is the popular music, which means we get to "entertain" our concert goers. This is the music that John Q Public enjoys, and we get to connect with them through this music.

I, for one, enjoy Pops music.

It seems that we stuffy musicians are losing our perspective, not to mention our music education jobs by the attitude we have about "serious" music. I maintain, if we want to keep music out there, we need to play MORE pops concerts, and, once in a while, throw in a serious tune. Who knows, at some point, that tune might earn Pops Music status!

That is another thing, at one point, whatever is "Pops Music" now, was once "Serious Music" right?

I just wanted to throw these ideas out there, and see what people think...
